High-Precision Dimensional Control for Medical Blow Molds
Booling produces medical blow molding molds mainly used for hospital bed headboards, spine boards, and diagnostic equipment housings. The typical products manufactured by these molds are single-piece HDPE extrusion blow-molded structural parts with lengths of up to about 2 meters. The dimensional accuracy of load-bearing areas is controlled within ±0.5mm. This tolerance is verified during the T1 trial stage using CMM inspection, combined with multiple ultrasonic wall thickness measurement data for cross-verification.
This tolerance is suitable for HDPE molding conditions that require stable processing, including controlled parison programming, stable melt temperature, and consistent cooling. However, the achievable tolerance may vary depending on structural geometry, wall thickness distribution, and the ratio of length to wall thickness.
Customer Testimonial
The BL2505160 mold delivered exceptional cycle time reduction — 43 seconds vs. our previous 68-second benchmark. T1 samples passed on first try with all 12 dimensional checkpoints within tolerance.

Main Medical Blow Molds
Material selection is not based only on performance data. We recommend materials according to disinfection frequency, usage environment, and impact resistance requirements. For example, HDPE is preferred for products frequently cleaned with chlorine-based disinfectants, while ABS is recommended when surface finish and painting performance are more important.

Customer Case Study
A customer in Asia required a custom single-cavity integrated bed headboard blow molding mold with dimensions of 940×590×52mm. Initially, the customer used a mold made of conventional steel, but mass production had issues: after repeated long-term disinfection, the panel surface tended to turn white and crack, and dimensional variation in load-bearing areas exceeded standards. In addition, there was no complete mold material, trial data, or documentation archive, which caused failure in overseas factory audits.
We re-optimized the entire mold manufacturing solution based on medical blow molding standards and selected materials according to production volume requirements. The delivered mold package included tax and shipping, along with a full set of audit-level traceability documents.
After molding, the bed headboard achieved a load-bearing area dimensional tolerance of ±0.5mm. It passed multiple tests including disinfectant corrosion resistance, low-temperature impact, and load deformation testing. The integrated hollow structure eliminated the need for multi-part assembly, reducing downstream assembly processes, meeting long-term hospital disinfection requirements, and successfully passing overseas factory audits.

Surface and Function
Medical parts are not only evaluated based on appearance. For example, spine boards require a certain level of friction to prevent slipping during handling. However, if the surface is too rough, it may trap dirt and become difficult to clean.Generally, a medium texture such as VDI 24–27 is used to balance anti-slip performance and cleanability.

Testing Standards
After sample production, the following tests are usually conducted:
- Rated load deformation test
- -20°C low-temperature impact test
- Disinfectant chemical resistance test
Whether a sample passes is not determined only by dimensional accuracy, but by overall performance.
